How Praising God Will Change Your Life

When we think praise, we think the fast, upbeat songs that the choir sings after Worship (the slow song). But so few of us actually know the truth about Praise, and it all becomes very ritualistic and a routine part of service. A person can actually even be dancing and jumping, and still not understand the importance of giving glory to God.
if we are going to break free from Nominal Christianity, we are going to break the habit of doing things for God ignorantly. I want us to talk about two things that praising God, giving Him the Glory does for us
This is What Praising God will Do for You
1. It is the quickest way to cure depression and Heaviness
I got this revelation last year, but oh, it has made all the difference in my life. Last year, school had become so unbearable, I was having problems with keeping up with school work and I was really lagging behind in all my projects and assignments. I was so depressed at the time, I felt like I was literally carrying a heavy burden I could not get rid of.
School closed and the Sunday after that was thanksgiving Sunday. My pastor preached on Praise and she quoted this familiar verse,
To [a]console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified. (Isaiah 61:3)
During the sermon, I felt light coming into my Spirit. I was carrying all these burdens, I was confused, dull, and depressed. Yet, this verse was giving me the solution to my problems-
The garment of praise for the Spirit of heaviness.
This revelation made me so excited and when it was time for thanksgiving, I danced like I have never danced before in my entire life. I don’t know exactly how David danced, but I was so sure that that was what I did. After thanksgiving, I tell you, something changed! I looked for the depression and did not find it again. Glory!!!
Since then, I have used this tool to my advantage. You know you can be so worried and sad that your prayers just simply come out as tears? When I get to that point, in fact before I get to that point, once I just sense any form of heaviness, I just go to Youtube and dance to my favorite praise songs.
I’m telling you, it works like magic. Put this to the test, I guarantee you that if you praised God genuinely and with total abandon, those feelings will disappear. No matter what you’re going through in life, God will seem bigger than that. It is on this plane that you become totally unaffected by the worries and troubles of this life.
Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! (Philippians 4:4)
2. Praise is a solid weapon of warfare!
Tauren Wells says when we praise, God gets to Work. Jehoshaphat was the king of Judah and they were about to fight a battle in which it was impossible for them to win. But then he did something that seemed illogical, he let the praise team go first to battle. You can read the entire text to understand it better, but lets take a look at it from vs 21
21 Jehoshaphat asked the people for advice. Then he appointed men to sing to the Lord. He wanted them to praise the Lord because of his glory and holiness. They marched out in front of the army. They said, “Give thanks to the Lord. His faithful love continues forever.”
22 They began to sing and praise him. Then the Lord hid some men and told them to wait. He wanted them to attack the people of Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir. They had gone into Judah and attacked it. But they lost the battle.
23 The Ammonites and Moabites rose up against the men from Mount Seir. They destroyed them. They put an end to them. When they finished killing the men from Seir, they destroyed one another. (2 Chronicles 20:21-23)
The enemy army killed each other!!!
Like, if this isn’t proof enough, I don’t know what else is.
I know you have some unanswered and pressing prayers, I know you are stuck in a rut and you’ve been fasting and praying, all to no avail. Can I encourage you to take time off to really praise God?
In fact, write those prayer points on a piece of paper, place it on the floor as you dance (prophetic instruction), and watch what will happen. No, this is not weird or occultic or whatever, you are praising the King of kings and saying that as you praise God, your breakthrough in those situations will come.
I have done it before, you know. Just this year, I wrote an exam and I promise you, the only question, I knew was 1, out of 4 questions. It was going to be an F, in the exam hall I was almost pooing in my pants, thinking of what would happen if I failed this course. I came out of the exam and though people complained it was tough, I did not see anyone as distressed as I was. I cried so much. At that point, my faith failed me.
I went home and during church service, I danced like a mad person and praised God with all my heart. Before then, I talked to God that I desperately needed help for that course, but now I would put that concern away and just praise Him. The depression left me after I did so. During the choir ministration, I stood up to dance again and the choir leader gave a prophetic word.
“Someone here is really trusting God for something specific. The Lord says that if you dance with all your heart, your breakthrough will come in the most surprising way”
I received the prophetic Word and I had so much faith in it. Even after that service, I kept praising God, when memories of the exam would come, I would put all my focus on God. Guess what happened?
God did it for me. I did not fail the course, and even better, I got an A! in a course I only knew one answer to in the entire exam. If you still don’t believe me after this testimony, mehnn I don’t know how else to convince you.
Dance is a strange weapon of deliverance. Praise is a weapon of warfare, I kid you not. Please take advantage of it, it will change your life for the best. Please read Psalm 149 to understand this better
