Hello!!!

So this is the second part of our series on desiring God passionately. If you haven’t read the first part, click here to do so, you will not regret it!

How to become Zealous for God

1. Do Not Hide Your Love

picture showing we should not hide our love

You simply cannot hide passion. Have you ever seen couples in love with each other? True passion cannot be hidden

Lets read from Samuel 6 to understand what I’m saying, you can read the full text here but I’ll summarize, the ark of the Lord was being brought to Jerusalem and David was dancing so much and unashamedly that his wife Michal was filled with contempt for Him.

Do you remember the song?

“When the Spirit of the Lord is upon my soul, I will dance like David danced”

Apparently, David danced in a way that said:

“To hell with my dignity and Kingship, the Lord’s ark is finally here and I couldn’t be more joyous!” Apostle Joshua defines David’s dance as a dance done with a genuine heart, focused on God. In essence, he is saying with passion and desire for God. That kind of passion cannot be hidden.

Are you the only one that knows you love God?

If the answer is no, then you are the one God sent me to today. How do we act in church? Are we just cool guys in the presence of God or do we like David, deny our dignity, and worship God like mad people?

Do the people in your life know you as someone who is passionate about God and I don’t mean in a hypocritical manner but in a very genuine way. Can your friends, speaking about you truly say, “my friend doesn’t joke with his/her Jesus?”

A friend once told me that she became passionate about God because of her roommate who was always very passionate about God. She would literally be ironing and be praying to God and it was so genuine that my friend changed and started to live all out for God. Can anyone genuinely give this testimony about you? If not, you are not passionate about God.

True passion cannot be hidden. People must not be able to separate your love for God from you when they are describing you to others.

My prayer for myself, and everyone reading this is that we truly love God and that everyone can testify to the fact that we are on fire for God, that Jesus is truly Lord over our lives, and is everything to us

 2. Associate Yourself With Passionate People

surrounding yourself with passionate people

When you are constantly around people who are not passionate and have no desire for God- there is only so much passion you yourself will have for God- None. You fuel your passion, your desire for God by being around people who are hungry and that is what happened to my friend in the previous point.

Also, listening to preachers and singers who are passionate will make you passionate too. Listening to Apostle Joshua Selman’s sermons has changed my life for the better. All the people I currently look up to now are extremely hungry people, people that would literally choose death rather than living a life in which God does not reside in its center. Those are the kind of people you should look up to as well.

My hunger for God began to develop as I read Ezinne Zara’s blog, a role model I deeply honor. Since then, my hunger has been cultivated and grown speedily because of the books I read, the people I listen to, the people I follow on Instagram, and the people I watch on Youtube. I did not even know it that my hunger for God was growing rapidly as I learned from these people until I discovered i was no longer the same person. A book I encourage you to start with is Pursuit of God by A.W Tozer.

Perhaps, I should put together a lists of books and people to listen to develop your passion for God. If this is something you would be interested in, let me know in the comments.

3. Beware of what you listen to

Music does something to the soul,

Whenever the evil spirit from God bothered Saul, David would play his harp. Saul would relax and feel better, and the evil spirit would go away. 1 Samuel 16:23

David only had to play the harp for Saul to feel better and the evil spirit to go away. This just goes to show the power of music to the soul and so we must be careful of what we listen to and allow to fill our hearts.

I know that many people will not agree with me, but listening to secular music will kill your hunger, zeal, and passion for God from growing. Be intentional about the songs you listen to and even the movies you watch. Instead of filling your phone with all kinds of secular music, why don’t you focus on worship music? listen to songs that will take you instantly to the throne room. There are many, I tell you.

There are many worship songs in all genres of music. Download them from wherever you download your songs from, these things will help you. Cultivate a culture of listening to songs that ignite your passion for God. A good place to start would be hillsong, bethel music and elevation worship.

Again if you are interested in my own playlist, let me know in the comments.

4. Spend Quality Time With God

spending with God

This is a really logical step.

How can you even love someone if you haven’t spent time with them? You would have to take the time to get to know God better to actually fall in love with Him. As you read scripture daily, you begin to learn more about Him and it is impossible to not love Him.

The more time you spend with Jesus in prayer, worship, and reading the Word, the more passion you’ll have for Him. The presence of God has a way of filling your initial hunger and giving you an even greater hunger than you came into His presence with. And so in a way you’d leave filled but then you’ll also leave hungry. His presence is amazing and with time. I will not talk so much on this here, as I have a lot of blog posts that talk about how to spend quality time in his presence, so check them out here

5. Give Him Everything!

Sadly, this is the line where a lot of people decide not to cross. Since David is the main guy of this post, I want to quote

“and now, because of my devotion to the Temple of my God, I am giving all of my own private treasures of gold and silver to help in construction…” 1chronicles 29:3

God prevented David from building His Temple and for a normal person that would be it but because David was so devoted and passionate about God, He decided to help Solomon get ready for the task. As if that was not enough, he gave all of his own treasures, the keyword being all, in order to provide resources for the building of the temple.

It did not matter to him that he would not get the credit for being the one to build the Temple, all that mattered was that He wanted to build a house dedicated to God. All he cared about was that he had a nice palace to live in and God did not have a designated place on the earth to dwell. To Him, that was very important and instead of spending the time enjoying life and all, he made preparations for the temple to be built. If that is not passion, I really don’t know what is.

What are you willing to give God, what can you give up for God?

The rich man in the Bible had no passion and that’s why when Jesus told him to sell all he had to follow Him, he couldn’t. He regarded those things more important.

Can you give Him anything and everything?

Can you give him your ambitions, time, dreams, ego, relationships?

Can you give Him all of you?

Can you give him your money? This is very evident in our attitude towards giving our tithes and offerings. For instance, we just assume that offerings are those little pocket changes we don’t need and nothing couldn’t be farther from the truth. David said in 2 Samuel 24:24

“…for I will not present burnt offerings to the Lord my God that have cost me nothing”

Last week, I asked do you love God above these things and the ultimate test for that is to see if you are able to give it up to God or not. Anything you cannot give God still has a place above Him in your heart. The price for all of God is all of you and so if you say you want to passionately pursue after God, you must be willing to deny yourself daily. It is not a one-time thing, it must be a continuous process until the end of your life.

How To Truly Be A Man After God’s Heart

How to be a person after God's heart

“Search me and Know my Heart…” Psalms 139:23

If this blog post has convicted you and you don’t know where to start from, this is it:

  • You have to present your heart to God and tell him to help you search for it.
  • Tell him you haven’t been passionate and you know that there are things that are hindering you from being passionate.
  • Tell him to reveal those things to you, whatever they are.
  • Fair warning, He will reveal them to you and they will most probably not be pretty but don’t be ashamed because He’s a merciful God. Tell him to help you, because you really can’t do it on your own, it’s His ability in you (Philippians 2:13)
  • Make a decision to live passionately for him, declare it
  • Commit to spending more time with God and being around people who will fuel your passion for Him. Learn the act of surrender and learn to give him your all freely
  • Give yourself diligently to learning from men and women of the faith who are Passionate for God

Do these and watch how your life will change drastically. Mine has! These tips are tips that are actually tested and tried so don’t take this lightly.

If this post has been helpful to you in any way or you know someone it can help, please don’t hesitate to share it with the share buttons below. This also is an act of true passion for God, when you share something that will draw people closer to God. Do not be stingy with Godly information.
