Why You Need To Draw Closer to God

Hey guys!!! I hope you’re doing well. I’m all settled in school and I’m trusting that this will be my best semester yet. Who’s just starting school and how is it going for you?

So, I had this month’s blogposts all planned out but then I’ve decided to dedicate this month, which is also my birth month, to writing about God and my Faith in general. In case you didn’t know, I’m a faith in lifestyle blogger. I obviously write about a lot of things other than my faith but this blog remains faith based and I’m all about telling people about Jesus and helping them grow in their faith and walk with God.

Today’s blogpost came to me last minute and I feel this urgency to share it. This is a wakeup call for everyone: we have to stop about being so lazy about our relationship with God. I know we have like a thousand and one things to worry about and it’s so easy to push God to the bottom of our priorities but that’s not how it should be. Perhaps this song will put it all in perspective.

We have to make room for Jesus, let him fill our hearts. Nothing else will satisfy and when we start feeling too relaxed about our relationship with God, that fire for God in our hearts begins to dim.

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”- Revelations 3:20

This verse has been ringing in my head because God wants so much from us. He could have anything in the world, anything at all but all he wants is our hearts, our love, our attention. Have you been paying Jesus attention at all? We have a lot of mending to do within us, we have neglected our relationship with him, pushed him to the sidelines of our lives and still wonder why he seems so silent in our lives. If you know in your heart, that you’ve gone so far away from God, then now is the perfect time to make things right. You may be thinking, “I don’t think I’ve gone so far away from God or have i?” I’ll answer you with this quote I saw some time ago

“The closer you are to God, the slightest sin will cause you great sorrow”

I know this is true. There was a time when it was okay for me to tell so many ‘white’ lies and I wouldn’t feel a thing but now the slightest lie causes me so much distress and I know it’s because I’ve been intentional about my relationship with God. I’ve been reading my Bible, praying and spending time with God. I am not perfect and I fall short every time but I’m also allowing myself to be a work in progress by God as I take my relationship with Him very seriously.

God wants you to know today: “you are wondering why it seems like I’m so silent in your life and why you can’t hear my voice, it’s because you haven’t leaned in close enough to hear me. I never left, you did”

Jesus is waiting and you’ve pushed him off the center of your life. Well, he wants his center position back! he wants you to lean in close enough and become conscious of his presence in your life. He’s waiting and if only you’d open the door… you’ll never have a better friend in your entire life.

You don’t have time? Baby boy, baby girl, make time.

I never left, you did.

If you think you’re too busy, what should be God’s excuse? I mean, he’s the creator of the entire universe. With all that God has to do, the galaxies and stars he has to put in place every single day. Yet, he still cares for you, he doesn’t joke with you at all. He has a lot of things on his to-do list yet your name is still on the palm of his hand (Isaiah 49:16). No one can snatch you out of his hand!(Isaiah 43:13)

Nothing about you is trivial to him, not even the hairs on your head(luke 12:7). Darling, you can’t be too busy for Him. I’ve noticed something, all the time I spend on social media and watching movies and on some occasions, some relevant things, I sometimes end up regretting but I have never and I mean it, I have NEVER ever regretted spending time with God! Somebody get me a lie detector!

bring it

Start making time to listen to some worship music, read your Bible, meditate on His word and pray! Mend that relationship or build one if you haven’t already (find out how to do that here). Get close enough, bask in his love and the comfort of his presence, then sit back and watch you become the best ever version of yourself!
